Interesting use of this rhyme given its seeming original history. Growing up eons ago, this was a popular song just because is sounded nice. But, its history purportedly alludes to the time during the plague of 1665-66. Many folklore historians believe this song was written about 100 years later. A well written and researched article provides insights as to this songs origins. Also included are brief notes about other childhood songs many of us grew up with.
